Log Substrate

These dowels are then placed into the log, sealed with some wax to prevent any contamination, saved in a dark and dry place till the mushrooms are ready to be collected. The logs should be secured from direct sunshine along with strong winds. So, much better cover them in a black polythene bag. It would take around a year and a half for the fungi to colonize the whole log.

Straw Substrate

Perhapsone of the most convenient substrate to handle is the straw. Initially, you need to sterilize the straw. Do this by putting boiling water on the straw. When the straw has cooled spray the generate, which is consisted of in the mushroom set. Make sure that you shake the bag with the straw and the spawn to spread the spawn uniformly. Seal the bag. Place this is a dark and moist place. The mushrooms can be harvested in about 6 weeks.

This is one of the conventional ways of growing mushrooms. You use grain generate to inoculate the mushrooms into the manure or soil substrate.
